An End Is Just Another Beginning
I have always loved open endings in film, television, and literature. These endings which suppose a stimulus to imagine how the story will continue, which make it possible to understand that this story is not completely finished. One more chapter has simply been written, closing one step and starting another. Endings to understand that an end is just another beginning.
Our life is filled with cycles that begin and end. So that we will have many beginnings and many endings. Some of us will experience them personally, they will be stages of our own life; others will experience them through other people’s stories, whether they are true or not.
Personally we will live: our loves and romantic breakups, our successes and our failures at school, the falls when learning to walk or ride a bike, the friendships that we will build along the way and those that we will lose… Other people from our environment will teach us through the recounting of their own experiences and we will eventually have the opportunity to learn from characters from film, television or literature.
The end of a book
Once again, I turn the pages and go from end to beginning, from the back cover to the cover. To rediscover the title, look carefully at the accompanying illustration, to hold this book in my hands and stay a few minutes in silence … while my mind travels again through its words, its pages, its story. But I have to get back to reality whether I like it or not; I have already come to its end, that end that always leaves a bittersweet taste when we have been taken by a story and its development has mingled with ours.
It doesn’t matter if these stories are told by movies, books or TV series. Long or short stories, which can last for hours, days, months or even years. In any case, they all have an end, both dreaded and at the same time hoped for.
Sometimes an open ending that gives wings to our imaginations to continue the story when there are no explicitly written scenes or words. Sometimes just a sudden ending resulting from a strike by the writers of the TV series or a writer who wanted to write more than one book but never succeeds. Or even an end where we do not know the outcome because, after a fantastic story, the person pulling the strings did not know how to end.
One end is just another beginning
Dealing with the end of a story we are passionate about is never easy. It’s not easy when we talk about fictional stories, the characters of which have touched our hearts. Therefore, it is all the more difficult to recognize that life is cyclical and that each stage has a limited time. That when something comes to an end, we have no choice but to accept the fact that it has no sequel and open ourselves to new opportunities.
Everything begins and ends, including life. Every living being born and dies. And during his life he has to face many stages of growth and evolution. As human beings, the moment we are conceived and our mother is pregnant, we start to grow.
To be born, about nine months later, the pregnancy will have to end. We open our eyes to the world as babies and we will continue to grow and evolve into children, then adolescents, then adults, finally embracing old age. Each start of a new step is linked to the end of the previous one. An end is just another beginning. Nothing more… and at the same time, all of this.
Our thoughts Sometimes we have a hard time putting an end to what makes our lives bitter. Let us reflect on this situation together.
